From 2014 to 2015, UnLtd and Social Investment Business worked together to understand the demand for capacity building support and social investment amongst social entrepreneurs starting up or spinning out of universities.
This report explores the opportunities for universities to build on their expertise and internal infrastructure to reach further; creating not only an economic impact but also achieving positive social outcomes in their communities.
The report found that universities could support social venture activites in four key areas by acting as:
- Place based players, supporting local development
- Market builders, encouraging staff, students and social ventures to deliver services.
- Social venture incubators, bringing together ideas, projects and capital to create and incubate start-ups.
- Hubs of innovation, nurturing talent to harness the full potential for change on university campuses.
