I have worked in the Charitable sector running community businesses for most of my career to date across a diverse range of industries, operating community centres, a childcare centre, a post office, allotments, housing and construction training, heritage, planning and transport, all the while balancing effective business management with social value and the funding package needed to make it all work
I have been in my current role at Ouseburn Trust for 6 years but in and around the development trust movement for the last 16 years. I am an advocate for Charities operating like businesses (albeit with a social conscience) to develop resilience and resent the notion they are amateurish.
I consider the ‘Leadership beyond Authority’ mantra used by Common Purpose to be written for the type of organisation I have worked for, as they have always sought to do what is right for the communities they serve, not necessarily what they have a right to do.
In my spare time I like to spend time in the mountains, running, climbing or sometimes simply escaping from the 21st Century assault on the senses.
