This section gives a brief recap of our Futurebuilders (FBE) learning project –supported by the Government Inclusive Economy Unit at the Department of Digital, Media, Culture and Sport.
Futurebuilders England was a ground-breaking, Government-backed £142m social investment fund that provided loan financing to social sector organisations in England to help them bid for, win, and deliver public service contracts. Futurebuilderswas the first social investment fund in the UK
and Social Enterprise Investment Fund
It is interesting to start with our early social investment funds, and the distribution of finance through them, these being FBE and SEIF. On these funds our analysis suggests that SIB did invest in areas of deprivation and that the more deprived the area, the higher the proportion of grant allocated to the investee.
As you’ll see from the Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) changes, over 40% of Futurebuildersinvestees were located in the 20% most deprived areas of the country in 2010 (5th IMD Quintile). By value, 31% of social investment provided under Futurebuilderswent to the 20% most deprived.
