Report: Impact

Social Investment Business launches their 2018-19 impact report

Social Investment Business (SIB) has today launched their 2018-19 impact report, which marks their first significant step towards measuring and articulating the difference they are making as an organisation and collecting data and insights to influence others.

SIB have one of the largest and most mature social investment portfolios in the UK, and one of the most significant track records in providing finance and support.

The report details that – between 2002 and 2018-19:

  • SIB has disbursed £180m in loan finance to 460 charities and social enterprises to date, alongside £133m of grants (of which £45m was used in blended deals)
  • SIB has disbursed a further £115m in grant funding to1,900 organisations
  • In 2018-19, SIB currently manage an investment portfolio of £55m.
  • Almost 40% of SIB’s portfolio work in the top 20% most deprived areas in the country

The report also establishes SIB’s impact approach and methodology – which outlines a focus on building the resilience of the organisations they support, collecting data in six core areas.

At Social Investment Business, we have decades of experience in strengthening impact-led organisations to improve people’s lives. We are hugely excited to be sharing this impact report: SIB’s unique position in the social investment market offers an independent, knowledgeable and responsive voice. We hope our insights go some way in helping to shape and influence the sector to make social investment more flexible, patient and effective for everyone.”

Hazel Blears
Chair of Social Investment Business

We are delighted to present our 2018-19 Impact Report for Social Investment Business. We hope it provides not only a snapshot of SIB’s current work, but also a sense of both our track record and our future plans. We are ambitious about our future, and the impact we can have through our investments, our partnerships and our influence: an impact we can only achieve working for and with the organisations we are set up to serve.”
